Walnut Canyon

We recently decided that this summer we wanted to tour as many national parks as we could. There are three within 20 minutes of Flagstaff and when we head to Idaho for the summer we decided we would stop through Utah as well and hit some. The first place we visited was Walnut Canyon. This canyon is where a group of Indian tribes made their homes on the cliff of this canyon.

Along the path there were signs of all the vegetation along the trail. The kids would run to each sign and ask us what it said. They usually told of reasons why the Indians used that certain plant.
This is a storage area that Indians used.
Here is the walls of one of their two bedroom homes.

We also saw lots of these creatures along our walk. Hyrum got really excited everytime we saw one.
This is part of the Indian dwellings along the cliff.
If you look real close you can see openings in the rock where the Indians made their homes.

The ridges in the rocks showed how windy it was when it was being formed back in the supposed billions of years ago.
It was so gorgeous. And it was a great learning experience for my kids. Hyrum asked so many questions and Adam did really great and didn't complain much. Its so great to see what our Heavenly Father has given us and to be in nature to experience it.
