CAUTION!!!! Blood warning...first ER visit.

This was a fun day! Our poor little Hyrum had to get staples. We were watching some kids at our house and Hyrum, Adam, and this other kid were playing on the top bunk bed. From Hyrums story they were playing doggies and the other kid was being the "mean" doggy. Before I know it I hear a scream that can only make mothers know that something very terrible is wrong. Hyrum and Adam had been pushed off the bed. I run into their room and Hyrums head had been scalped...literally. The back of his hair was flapped down. I really know what the scriptures mean by being scalped! So I flapped his hair back up and run him into the bathroom. It really didn't have that much blood it seemed to be a clean cut. Adam was freaking out too, almost delirious. He was so pale I thought that he might have had a concussion. So after my moment of freaking out I hurry and called Mike. Luckily, he answered his phone. Its not very often that he can do that. He had just finished up with a patient. I told him to get home right now because we needed to take Hyrum to the ER. In the mean time I tried calming Adam down and he seemed to be doing fine. He had a big goose egg on his head and it almost looked like a carpet burn. I also tried calling the doctor to see if we could just go into the children's clinic but they didn't have anyone that could do stitches.
Mike got home super fast and we dropped the other kids off at their home and headed to the ER. The little kid that pushed them off was so terrified with the whole thing. Once we got to the ER the kids were treated so great. They got them in really fast. The first picture he is getting numbed up! He was so cold and shaky that they wrapped him up in blankets.

The final product, 15 staples! Mike stayed in the room while they put them in and Adam and I went out. The nurse came out two different times to get more staples because the tear just kept going and going.
Once it was all over he was so proud of his cool hat and all those staples. He had to keep that hat on for 24 hours. The nurses all said how brave he was. They even said they had adults that didn't act like that. He stayed calm and was so brave.

They had such an awesome nurse! She even gave them "squirters" to take home and play with in the bath!
With all the craziness the boys ended up missing swimming lessons that day. Luckily they only had two lessons left. Adam was able to attend his last lesson but Hyrum wasn't allowed to get in the water. The last day was "safety" day. They put life jackets on the kids and explained what it means to have that on versus not. They let Hyrum watch and be the Jr. lifeguard. He thought that was so awesome.

 Hyrum carrying his lifeguard floatation!
Adam jumping off (pushing off) the diving board!

AFTER
Eight day later we took Hyrum into the doctor to get his staples removed. The boys and I were moving the next day to head to Idaho so we wanted to get this all done before we had to leave. Well....we wish it went that well. The doctor took out all the staples except the last two and the wound started opening up again. They had to once again numb  his head and put 10 more staples back in. The doctor felt so bad that she gave Hyrum $10 to go get ice cream. And once again she was so impressed with  how brave he had been. Hyrum decided to save his $10 and when he got them out the second time he bought himself a squirt gun.

This was after she took them out but decided to put them back in. And 6 more days with the staples in he finally was able to get them removed for good. And now he is healing great! We still don't know exactly what did it. He said he fell down the ladder way but it also could have been a toy in their room. Their was not trace of blood to give it away. But we are just so grateful that it was nothing worse than a few staples. And Adam ended up being just fine as well.

I cannot believe how brave you and Hyrum are! That is one of my big fears, to be honest I could hardly look at those pictures. I'm not sure what I'll do when it's one of my own kids; and with 4 boys, I know it will come!
